Made, Written & Photographed by the creators of the Point
I love a dessert that has picturesque layers, each carrying a unique flavor and texture. The fudgey brownie bottoms bring a delicious chocolatey crust. The rich French Silk Pie center carries that traditional flavor that everyone loves. A topping of whipped cream and chocolate shavings finish off the look and sweet taste this dessert deserves!
It may look like this recipe has a lot of steps and ingredients, but after you make it once, you'll see how simple it is to put together - and how delicious it is to eat!
French Silk Pie Brownies
Serves 12 - 16 | Total Time: 60 minutes + cooling
Ingredients
Brownies
1 box brownie mix, not prepared
1 egg
5 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1/4 cup milk
French Silk Layer
8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups powdered sugar
4 ounces semi sweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup unsalted butter, cubed
8 ounce whipped topping
Topping
8 ounce whipped topping
chocolate shavings or mini chocolate chips
Instructions:
1. Begin by preheating your oven to 350F and grease a 9x13in baking pan. Set aside.
2. In a medium bowl, combine the box of brownie mix, 1 egg, 5 1/2 tablespoons melted butter, and 1/4 cup milk. Mix until combined and smooth. Pour into your prepared baking pan and bake for 23 to 25 minutes, or until a tooth pick is inserted and removed without batter on it.
You could also substitute margarine for a cheaper alternative to butter.
3. Once the brownies are fully baked, remove from oven and let cool completely.
4. Begin to prepare the French Silk Pie layer by beating the 8 oz cream cheese with 1 teaspoon vanilla and 2 cups powdered sugar.
Add the powdered sugar in 1/2 cup increments to prevent a large mess and to ensure it combines evenly.
5. Grab a microwave safe bowl and melt the 4oz chocolate chips with 1/4 cup of diced butter. Microwave in 30 second increments and mix well in between to ensure it doesn't burn. Once the chocolate is smooth and thoroughly melted, add into the cream cheese/powdered sugar mixture. Beat or stir until the chocolate is combined.
6. Add 8oz whipped topping to the cream cheese mixture bowl, but use a spatula to carefully fold it in. This will avoid deflating the fluffy cool whip. Make sure to continue until it is combined.
7. As soon as the brownies are completely cooled, spread the French Silk Pie filling evenly over the top.
8. Top with a layer of 8oz whipped topping and sprinkle chocolate shavings, or mini chocolate chips on top to finish!
9. Store leftovers in an airtight container in your fridge!
